Nepal Secures Historic Spot in 2025 ICC U19 Women’s World Cup
|The Nepal U19 Women’s team has made history by qualifying for the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s World Cup, marking the first appearance of any Nepalese women’s team in a World Cup event across all age groups. They secured their place with an impressive win over UAE in the final group match.
After UAE won the toss and chose to bat, Nepal’s disciplined bowling restricted them to just 83 runs in 20 overs. Krishma Gurung led the attack with 4 wickets, while Riya Sharma and Seema KC took 2 each, showcasing a dominant bowling performance.
Chasing 84 runs to qualify, Nepal reached the target in just 14.4 overs, losing only two wickets. Despite an early setback with opener Sabitri Dhami’s dismissal, captain Puja Mahato’s quick 21 off 18 balls helped maintain momentum. After her departure, Sana Praveen and Sony Pakhrin took charge, securing Nepal’s position comfortably.
Finishing at the top of the group with five wins from six matches, Nepal advanced over UAE on net run rate. They will now join Australia, Bangladesh, and Scotland in Group D of the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup 2025, set to take place in Malaysia.
