Atalanta BC vs. Bayer Leverkusen – Match prediction, lineups

After a remarkable 51-game unbeaten run, Bayer Leverkusen is set to defend their record in the Europa League final against Atalanta BC on Wednesday in Dublin. Leverkusen aims to capture the second leg of a historic treble, while Atalanta pursues their first-ever European trophy.

Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, benefits from a fully fit squad, allowing him the luxury of choice. Piero Hincapie and influential midfielder Granit Xhaka are likely to return to the starting lineup. In attack, Alonso has the option to field either Victor Boniface or Patrick Schick, or possibly deploy a ‘false nine’ formation.

Florian Wirtz, Leverkusen’s standout player, is expected to start after being carefully managed due to a thigh injury. Wirtz has been exceptional this season, with 18 goals and 19 assists in all competitions, including 11 career goals in the Europa League.

Atalanta, meanwhile, will look to the attacking threats of Charles De Ketelaere, Ademola Lookman, and Teun Koopmeiners, with Gianluca Scamacca set to lead the line. Scamacca has been in excellent form, scoring in each knockout round and amassing six Europa League goals this season.

Despite some injury challenges, including the absence of experienced captain Marten De Roon and a less than fully fit Rafael Toloi, Atalanta welcomes back Emil Holm and Sead Kolasinac. Either Kolasinac or Giorgio Scalvini is expected to join Isak Hien and Berat Djimsiti in defense.
