India Defeats Australia by 295 Runs in First Test
|India secured a commanding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test match. Chasing a massive target of 534 runs in the second innings, Australia was bowled out for just 238 runs on the fourth day, Monday.
India’s bowlers delivered a stellar performance, with captain Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj claiming three wickets each. Washington Sundar took two, while Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up one wicket apiece.
For Australia, Travis Head fought valiantly with 89 runs, while Mitchell Marsh contributed 47. Alex Carey added 36, Steven Smith 17, and Mitchell Starc 12. However, the rest of the Australian batting lineup failed to reach double digits.
India had declared their second innings at 487 for six wickets, after brilliant centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli. In the first innings, India scored 150 runs, while Australia managed only 104 runs.
With this victory, India takes a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.
