Zimbabwe Secures Victory Over Pakistan in Rain-Affected First ODI
|Zimbabwe claimed a significant win over Pakistan in the first ODI, defeating the visitors by 80 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) method on Sunday. The home team now leads the three-match series 1-0.
Rain Disrupts Pakistan’s Chase
Chasing a modest target of 206 runs set by Zimbabwe, Pakistan struggled with the bat. By the time rain interrupted play in the 21st over, Pakistan had slumped to 60 for 6. With the game unable to resume, the DLS method determined an 80-run victory for Zimbabwe.
For Pakistan, captain Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 19, while Kamran Ghulam added 17 runs. Zimbabwe’s bowlers were on point, with Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, and Blessing Muzarabani each claiming two wickets.
Zimbabwe’s Batting Performance
Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe, batting first after losing the toss, managed to post 205 runs in 40.2 overs. While their innings lacked big partnerships, contributions from multiple players ensured a competitive total.
Richard Ngarava: 48 runs off 52 balls
Sikandar Raza: 39 runs off 56 balls
Tandivansi Marumani: 29 runs off 41 balls
Sean Williams: A quick-fire 23 off 17 balls
Pakistan’s bowlers put up a disciplined performance. Salman Agha and Faisal Akram led the attack, taking three wickets each. Meanwhile, Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Hussain, and Haris Rauf chipped in with one wicket apiece.
What’s Next?
The second ODI of the series is scheduled for Tuesday. With Zimbabwe taking the lead, Pakistan will be looking to bounce back and level the series in the upcoming match.
